This auto-X was a special one for us as it marked the debut of a new driver. Car Chief Jeremy Huck's Wife Kelly entered her 94 Honda Accord into competition. It was a great car and was nice to have a driver who is willing to listen and follow my instructions. Read more from Kelly in her own words... y first AutoX event. Well to start off, you can't just watch a couple of autox videos on youtube and expect that its, at all, "that easy", or "just a ride in the park". You are mentally and in some areas physically moving faster than your car it seems. There are so many things to pay attention to. In my situation it was mostly keep up with what Rob was yelling. "Go! Go! Go! BRAKE! Turn! Turn! Turn!...ect. All at the same time you are trying to keep in mind other things such as, don't cross your wrists, keep your hands at 10 and 2, keep looking ahead, and the list goes on from there.- (A brief note to the first timers...Have a seasoned driver ride with you, the criticism and loud directionals really helped!) I was scheduled to work in group A and run in group C, which was good, cause it gave me a chance to collect my thoughts and watch everyone else. So when the time came, I felt a little better prepared. Now for my turn. Put the helmet on, seat belt, ignition, I get the ok to leave grid. I pull up to the line, watch the car on the track before me, shift to 1st gear...Wait for it...Wait for it...OK GO!! From there untill the last second went by so fast it was a blur. My first three runs were clean, and with each run I got quicker, and more in tune with the car. As for my last run, the best one of the day, I would have made it with a 67, but 2 of those darn cones jumped out in front of my back tire! So all-in-all, I came in last with a 69. But its cool! Just more motivation to get out there next event and do great! I would like to throw some thanks out there, first off, to the teams car chief, for all his love and support, if it wasn't for him I wouldn't have a car to race. Second to Rob for waking up at 5am (on a Sunday) to offer his "loud criticism" and support. Thanks a million!!
