New set of Race Tires on Saturday Morning, Fastest time in the rain on Saturday afternoon and beating our best time by 1.3 seconds to lower our top time to 1:16:2!
The work put in by the whole team through the short off season was well worth it! With a new hardtop to test out as well we had a full agenda to complete so we had plenty of data moving forward for the remainder of the year. Having new race tires no the car for the first time required us to change the suspension setup from what we were used to. However, the car was much more stable than before with the race tires. Even though the tires are race tires they have small tread marks in them which we put to good use on Saturday afternoon. As we lined up on the grid for the final session we were greeted with rain and the Corvette Racer's group laughing at the handful of us preparing to take to the track. As soon as we got on the wet race track I quickly realized this session would be my one opportunity to set fastest time of the session. I was pitted against a Lotus Elise, BMW M3 and Evo. Black Betty was up for the challenge as I pushed the limits of the car and driver as the rain continued even harder as the session went on. On the final lap I crossed the line having completed the fastest time of the session with a time of 1:27:4! The next day I knew I had to improve on my best time in the dry and give the team another victory. With no rain and a full days' running we got to work on adjusting the suspension to allow me to go for a 1:16 laptime. We got into the 1:16s during session 1, but were unable to match this performance through the next 2 sessions. With only 1 session left I knew there was only one thing I could do...go for broke! When the session was complete I ran the entire session with 1:16 laptimes with a best time of 1:16:2! Since this was only our first event with the new tires I feel confident moving forward we'll have the package to beat once we get our supercharger installed. Check keeping back for more details as we are aggressively seeking to improve on our performances. |
